Challenging Media Stereotypes Training Course
Challenging Media Stereotypes Training Course
From November 16-22, 2024, Babilon Travel NGO hosted the Challenging Media Stereotypes training course in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. This dynamic event brought together 30 youth workers, with and without sensorial impairments and other fewer opportunities, from Romania (New Horizons Romania) , Serbia, Hungary, and the Czech Republic to address the critical role media plays in shaping societal perceptions and tackling harmful gender stereotypes.
Objectives and Highlights
The course aimed to enhance participants’ media literacy, equipping them with the tools to identify, challenge, and dismantle gender-based discrimination and stereotypes. Through interactive workshops and collaborative activities, youth workers developed critical thinking skills and explored inclusive strategies to advocate for positive change.
A standout feature of the training was its focus on inclusivity. Youth workers with sensory impairments participated fully, supported by accompanying individuals, ensuring the program was accessible to everyone. This inclusive approach demonstrated the power of diversity in fostering meaningful discussions and innovative solutions.
Outcomes and Impact
Participants achieved several key outcomes, including:
- Enhanced ability to critically evaluate media content for gender bias.
- Practical skills to combat discrimination through creative, non-formal education tools.
- The co-creation of an accessible digital resource—a comprehensive online booklet providing guidelines for recognizing and addressing gender stereotypes.
This training course empowered youth workers to act as advocates for gender equality in their communities, making a lasting impact beyond the event.
A Memorable Experience in Cluj-Napoca
Hosted at Hotel Stil, the participants enjoyed a comfortable stay while engaging in productive sessions and cultural exchanges. Despite chilly November weather, the warmth of collaboration and shared purpose was visible throughout the week.
The Challenging Media Stereotypes training course was a significant step towards creating a more equitable media landscape, and Babilon Travel NGO is proud to have facilitated this impactful initiative under the Erasmus+ program.
