The Decoding Disinformation (DeCode) youth exchange brought together young people from Romania, Serbia, North Macedonia, Portugal, and Hungary for an intensive learning experience focused on understanding and responding to disinformation in the digital age. Implemented in Sibiu, the project combined non-formal education methods with creative digital tools, placing young participants at the center of the learning process.
Organised by Asociația Babilon Travel, DeCode aimed to help participants explore how false or misleading information is created, how it spreads online, and how it influences opinions, emotions, and social behaviour. Rather than approaching the topic only theoretically, the project encouraged learning by doing—using short video production as a practical and accessible awareness tool, while mantaining a fun and creative vibe!
Working in small international groups, participants designed and produced short awareness videos addressing different forms of disinformation. Some videos highlight everyday examples of fake news and manipulated content, while others focus on emotional triggers, social pressure, and the consequences of sharing unverified information. A number of the videos adopt a humorous and creative tone, making complex issues easier to understand and more engaging for a young audience.
Throughout the exchange, video creation functioned both as a learning method and as an outcome. Participants developed critical thinking skills, media literacy, teamwork, and basic digital production competences, while also reflecting on their own online behaviour and responsibility as digital citizens.
The videos published below are more than creative exercises. They are awareness tools developed by young people for their peers and local communities. Through storytelling and visual expression, the participants convey clear messages about the importance of questioning information, checking sources, and thinking critically before reacting or sharing content online.
By presenting disinformation from multiple perspectives—personal, emotional, and social—the videos encourage viewers to pause and reflect on how digital content shapes opinions and public discourse.
The DeCode youth exchange was implemented in partnership with AzBuki, Check-IN, Square of Youth Association, and ZIVOT.
This activity is part of the project Youth Acreditation 2025 and was co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, supporting cross-border cooperation, youth participation, and the development of key competences for active citizenship.
We invite you to watch the videos created within the DeCode youth exchange, reflect on their messages, and share them within your networks. By doing so, you support young people’s voices in addressing disinformation and contribute to a more informed, critical, and responsible online space.
