PRESS RELEASE
Cluj-Napoca, 10th of August, 2021

Association Babilon Travel announces the start of the youth exchange

BALL for ALL

Project financed by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union

Asociatia Babilon Travel, a non-governmental organization active in carrying out international Erasmus + projects for the benefit of young people with visual impairments and those with low opportunities, known locally and internationally for its successful implementation of numerous social inclusion projects, announces the launch of the main activity, a youth exchange in Cluj-Napoca, Romania,, between August 11-17 within the project “Ball for All”, together with its partners from Turkey (Karabaglar Kaymakamligi) and North Macedonia (Mreza za Dozivotno Ucenje) and the local associated partner, the High-school for Visual Impaired Cluj-Napoca.

The purpose of the youth exchange is to respond to the needs of visually impaired young people to be included in society with their peers, to be equally involved in education, culture, sports, social life, etc.  Specifically, during the one week youth exchange the participants will practice goalball (the most popular ball sport in the world for the visually impaired, which become a Paralympic sport in 1976) in order to become inclusive, with the help of our mixed international teams of blind and sighted, girls and boys. The practice of sport will be accompanied by debates on topics of interest, such as the perception of people with disabilities in society, stereotypes and expectations of/from society, social inclusion.

Given the current situation generated by the Covid-19 pandemic on international level, the date of the project, originally scheduled for the end of October 2020, was postponed to August 2021 in order to allow Asociatia Babilon Travel, which puts a special emphasis on the health and safety of the participants, to ensure all the general and hygienic-sanitary conditions for this event to take place in complete safety and to be one of great educational and emotional impact on all those included in the project.
