Youth Exchange

Human Rights: Our Rights

Our Erasmus plus project Human Rights: Our Rights! is about to start soon and we are in full preparation. Our participants are preparing workshops, setting up accommodation, organizing travel and checking what food we should choose. Participants from Romania, Poland and Bulgaria, youngsters with special needs as well as youngsters with fewer opportunities will  share 8 days of learning activities and friendship in Zagreb.

The main goal of this project is to increase the knowledge of the participants about the human rights of people with disabilities as well as about the ways of exercising and advocating such rights, as a prerequisite for their equal inclusion in the community. Persons with disabilities constitute a significant portion of the population worldwide, yet they remain one of the most marginalized and vulnerable populations. They are commonly denied their rights to be included in the general school system and the workplace, to live independently in the community, to vote, to participate in sport and cultural activities, to enjoy social protection, to access justice, to choose medical treatment and to enter freely into legal commitments such as buying and selling property.

Project objectives are to:

  • Increase the knowledge of participants in the field of human rights of people with disabilities, especially the the right to integrity, freedom of violence, right to education and work, freedom of expression, right to social inclusion, right to participate in political and public life;
  • Increase the knowledge of participants of the meaning and content of The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities;
  • Increase the awareness of the need to respect and promote the rights of people with disabilities;
  • Increase self-awareness and self-esteem of the participants as well as to enhance their social inclusion
  • Develop intercultural and linguistic competences of participants;
  • Promote Erasmus+ and its Inclusion and Diversity Strategy.
