TERRA MIRABILIS Project: Exploiting the Results

Cluj-Napoca

The local project “Terra Mirabilis: Tourist Trails for Visually Impaired Young People”, developed by Babilon Travel NGO and funded by the City Hall and the City Council Cluj-Napoca, comes to an end.

The project proposed and achieved three main goals:

  • to identify a tourist route in the historic center of Cluj-Napoca, adapted to the needs of visually impaired people;
  • to train a group of volunteers to be able to safely accompany persons or groups of persons with visual disabilities on the identified tourist trail;
  • to document the tourist route through tourist guides in large fonts, both printed and digital format (PDF and MP3), in Romanian and English, written taking into account the specificities and needs of young people with visual impairments.

Virtually any young (or less young) visually impaired visitor, wishing to visit the historical center of Cluj-Napoca can contactl the Tourist Information Centre:

to get a tourist guide in large fonts, in Romanian or English and to establish if required an appointment with a volunteer to accompany him on the tourist trail.

The route includes the following attractions:
  • Avram Iancu Square;
  • Taylor’s Tower;
  • Reformed Church;;
  • Union SquareP
  • Bánffy Palace;
  • Pharmacy Museum
  • Etnographic Museum of Transylvania;
  • Museum Square;
  • Central Park and the Casino.

It takes two to three hours to complete the walking route.

The Terra Mirabilis project was supported by the City Hall and the City Council of Cluj-Napoca.

The project supports the candidacy of Cluj-Napoca for the title of „European Capital of Culture 2021”.

The project supports the programme „Cluj-Napoca 2015: European Capital of Youth”.
